We are delighted to be entering the second season of our program and look forward to reading your nominations for local, grassroots Community Heroes who are using their lives to make the greater Tampa Bay community a better place.
The initiative, funded and founded by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik, donated over 2 million dollars to Community Heroes last season in the form of one 50,000 dollar check at each of the 41 Lightning home games.
So if you know someone who deserves to be recognized, head on over to the link at the beginning of this article and follow the instructions for nominations.
The first deadline is August 15, less than two weeks away. The second and third deadlines are November 15 and January 15, respectively.
With labor uncertainty still looming, there is no official word yet as to whether or not the program will continue in the event of a lockout., though it is fair to assume with Vinik's history of commitment to community building that it would go on in some capacity whether the games are being played or not.Tags: Community Heroes, Hockey, Jeff Vinik, NHL, Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay Lightning
