Tampa Bay Lightning GM Steve Yzerman surprised many by following a run on defensemen early in the first round and selecting Peterborough Petes defender Slater Koekkoek 10th overall (whom many had ranked in the bottom half of the first round or even lower) instead of the much more highly rated forwards like Teuvo Teravainen, Filip Forsberg, and Mikhail Grigorenko.
Late last night, it broke on Twitter that Koekkoek's Petes, currently tied for last in the OHL with only 27 points in 40 games played, have traded Koekkoek to the Windsor Spitfires.
Sources say the Windsor Spitfires have acquired Petes defenceman Slater Koekkoek.

The Spitfires aren't much better off than the Petes, however. Windsor sits at 9th in the Western Conference with a mere 34 points in 39 games played, but it is fair to say Koekkoek's chances of seeing playoff hockey this season improved, if only slightly.
